‘You Win’ Programme: Youth Partner Finance Ministries For Progress
The Federal Ministries of Youth Development and Finance said recently that they would partner to ensure more participation of youths in the “You Win” programme.
Mr Muhammad Idris, Head of Public Relations of the ministry of youth development, disclosed this in an interview in Abuja.
You Win is an initiative of the Federal Government designed to encourage the youth to come up with business ideas as a way of generating employment.
Idris said that the programme had the potential to create employment for the youths and make them employers.
According to him, the 2nd edition, launched on September 4, is a great opportunity for the youths to achieve desired economic goals.
“It is a programme that has been designed to enable youths to initiate business ideas tailored to help young people become self reliant and also tackle unemployment. “
He reiterated the resolve of the youth ministry to collaborate with the finance ministry, to create relevant awareness on the need for the youth to drive development through their participation.
“We are working out some strategies in collaboration with the ministry of finance to actually allow the youth get the benefit of this “You Win” by way of sensitisation.
“Detailing the process of the programme; which is basically for somebody to think logically and bring a business idea.
“The Federal Government can actually collaborate with the person who initiated a business idea on how to collaborate with it, in terms of funds to achieve his or her vision.
“We are trying to bring up a wider sensitisation exercise to enlighten the Nigerian society on this laudable “You Win” programme, to send a message to the grassroots. “
Idris said that plans were also underway by the ministry to establish six new youth development centres in all the six geo-political zones of the country.
According to him, the centres, which are also aimed at engaging young people in lucrative ventures, will boost the 19 existing ones.
He said that although lack of continuity of projects initiated by government was perceived to hinder development in the country, necessary measures had been put in place to ensure the completion of the centres.
“We start most of our projects, but continuity also a problem, when you consider some of the challenges facing youth development, the centres can’t last.
“Youths are multi-talented in terms of practical skills, through partnership with all tiers of government, they will be able to develop themselves and ensure continuity.
