IT Expert Urges Companies To Outsource Non-Core Services
Mr Peter Jack, an expert in Information Technology, on
Monday advised companies to take advantage of outsourcing to leverage on new
technologies.
Speaking in Lagos at the First West Africa IT Outsourcing
Exhibition, Jack said that outsourcing would allow access to technical
expertise, quality and service improvement.
Jack, who is Business Development and Marketing Director at
Premier Business School in Lagos, said that outsourcing had provided
opportunities for multinational companies to outsource certain areas of their
business operations to other parties.
“Outsourcing enables an organisation to focus on core
business, rather than be distracted by IT issues,” he said.
According to him, outsourcing allows for flexibility,
control and financial advantages to the outsourced company.
Mr Chris Ndibe, Executive Secretary, Africa Free Zones
Association, advised corporate bodies to weigh the benefits of two or more
outsourcing providers before requesting for their services.
Ndibe said that this was necessary to see how outsourcing
could work for the service being requested.
He urged companies to insist on a contract or plan that
included all the expectations in the relationship.
“Outsourcing has made a powerful impact on the growth,
productivity and bottom lines of companies seeking for outsourcing service,”
Ndibe said.
He said that it was important to define what specific goals
were to be met before outsourcing.
“One should also be aware of the risks that outsourcing
carries.
“All said and done, outsourcing is definitely part of many
companies’ decision making process,” he said.
The theme of the event was “IT Outsourcing & Your
Business.”
