‘We Are Still In Charge Of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Project’
The management of Bi-Courtney Highway Services Ltd, the contractors handling the Lagos-Ibadan expressway rehabilitation project has said that efforts were being made to resolve complex issues surrounding the project.
The company said in a statement signed by Mr Dipo Kehinde, Head, Communications and Media Relations, that contrary to a media report, the company did not lose the contract.
Kehinde said the company was holding discussions with the Federal Government on the project.
“The federal authorities and Bi-Courtney have been doing a lot lately to clear all the hurdles on the path of this all-important project.
“Notwithstanding the political intrigues, Bi-Courtney has been carrying out extensive palliative works on the road,
“We have worked over a stretch of 600 metres at Ibafo, along the southbound carriageway, and a total of 570 metres length has been cleared and backfilled,’’ he said.
He added that the company’s effort had helped to ease the traffic congestion usually experienced along the stretch and assured that the project would be completed.
Kehinde said the company had overlaid more than 13, 000 square metres at Sapade, Alapako, Isheri, Ibafo, RCCG area, northbound from Danco Filling Station towards Conoil Filling Station.
“More than 5000 square metres of potholes patching have been executed, and we have done extensive work to reclaim the most critical portion at the Aramed end of the highway, near Ibadan,” he said.
He blamed the slow pace of work on the inability of the company to install its asphalt plant at the RCC yard.
“The 6.5million dollars bitumen plant which has been seized for over a year now could have been producing more than 120 tonnes of asphalt daily for the maintenance of the road,’’ he said.
