Air Travellers Decry Poor Service
Airline passengers have expressed
dissatisfaction with the quality of services rendered by local airline
operators in the country.
In a recent snap poll conducted by NOI
Polls Limited in February, which sought to appraise the current developments in
the aviation sector, it was discovered that most passengers allegedly condemned
the airline operators for persistent flight delays, missing luggage and poor
customer service offered by front desk officers of airline operators amongst
others.
The poll also revealed the level of
awareness of air passengers regarding current reforms in the aviation sector.
The results showed that 64 per cent of the
respondents were aware of the on-going remodeling of airports, 27 percent were
aware of the upgrading of airport infrastructure and three per cent were aware
of security and air-space management issues.
When asked whether the current Minister was
making some progress in the aviation sector, about six in 10 respondents chose
between strongly agree (11 per cent) and agree (49 per cent). However, 21 per
cent of the respondents were indifferent, 16 per cent disagreed that some
progress had been made.
On the areas where the Minister should be
focusing his attention as part of the aviation sector reform, 24 per cent of
respondents were of the opinion that she should focus on “Improvement on
Service” while 17 per cent and 16 per cent chose “Airport security” and
“upgrading of airport infrastructure” respectively.
Also, six per cent each selected safety of
air space and power stability at Airports while three per cent and two per cent
chose “control of airport traffic” and “general ambiance and airport
cleanliness” respectively. Interestingly, 26 per cent of respondents chose all
of the above.
