Foundation Seeks Free Accommodation For Teachers
A Non-Governmental-Organisation— Teachers Shelter Foundation (TSF)— last Wednesday appealed to public-spirited individuals and organisations to provide free accommodation to public school teachers.
This it noted, would promote education. The TSF was founded in May 2006 with a vision to make teaching a noble profession by providing comfortable accommodations for teachers in public schools nationwide.
The Founder of the NGO, Mr Adetoro Adesoji, said in Lagos that it was sad that many teachers were still living in the slums.
Adesoji said that this had negatively affected the productivity of such teachers.
He noted that teachers played critical roles in the development of any society, and should be given the needed support.
He said that Nigeria might not realise the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on education and its Vision 20:2020, if it failed to invest much on teachers.
Adesoji said that inadequate remuneration for teachers contributed to the declining education standards.
He regretted that the decay in the education sector was gradually eroding public confidence in the nation’s ability to realise the objectives of the national policy on education.
He solicited the support of governments, well meaning individuals and corporate organisations to the foundation, to enable it to realise its vision.
