FG Unveils Roadmap On Aviation Sector
The Federal Government has unveiled a new roadmap for the aviation sector in line with global standards.
The Ministry of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah disclosed this during an interactive session with stakeholders in aviation industry, in Abuja..
She explained that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and other regulatory bodies would be reformed, adding that the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) that the government signed with airbus operators would be reviewed.
She said she would collaborate with the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Lamido Sanusi to provide funds for local airlines through single digit interest rates, stressing that the new framework is expected to transform the sector to be efficient, profitable and preferred mode of transportation in the country.
She stated that the re-modeling of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt International Airports would be completed by the end of May, adding that 90 per cent of revenue generated from the sector came from the Lagos and Abuja airports.
On the issue of fare disparity, the aviation minister noted that the interest of the Nigerian travelers must be protected, saying the nation’s constitution is binding on every individual and corporate organisation.
She expressed optimism that the new roadmap would address the various problems confronting the sector.
