ICT Competition : Students Urge Transparency
The Rivers State
Government, has been urged to throw open the ICT Imagine Cup competition slated for Australia this year.
A student who gave his name as Emeka Amadi, said the information and communication competition should not be for a selected few but for those who scale through the hurdles put in place by the state government or its agencies.
Amadi, who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt, Wednesday, said the government through the Ministry of Education should set a mock test that would produce those that would represent the state in Australia.
He was of the view that politicians should be kept off the project so as to allow a level playing ground.
The undergraduate said such competition was not only for the good of the students but a window to let the world know the potentials of Rivers people, saying, ICT could boost the economy of the state.
Another student who identified himself as David Iyie, described the competition as a welcomed development, and stimulus for the much clamoured ICT training and programmes in the state.
Iyie, said such a programme would confirm whether or not the state government has invested much in ICT development in the state.
He also suggested that Rivers people schooling outside the state, should be given the opportunity to participate in the competition, saying that the winning team may emerge from anywhere.
While calling on the state government not to relent in ICT development, he said more ICT centres should be established to support the existing one along Port Harcourt/Aba expressway.
