Octogenarian Explains Choice Of Dickson
An octogenarian, Mr Wilson Ribago, seen voting at Saturday’s governorship polls in Bayelsa says he is voting to ensure the dividends of democracy for his people.
Ribago, 89, aclaimed to be the oldest man in Toru-Orua community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa, said he came to vote for “my son Seriake Dickson,” the PDP candidate.
He told newsmen at Toru-Orua on Saturday shortly after casting his votes, that Dickson would build a house for me as the most elderly man in the community if he won.
Ribago expressed optimism that when voted into office, “Dickson will build good schools to enable the people acquire good education,” adding that Bayelsa was one of the most backward in education in the country.
Surrounded by his kits and kins, Ribago said Dickson single handedly constructed some classroom blocks for the dilapidated community primary school, Toru-Orua when he was Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General.
Also speaking with newsmen, the oldest woman in the community, Mrs Anchor Koroye, said she came out to do accreditation and vote because of “my son and to ensure that he wins the election”.
The 80-year-old woman said the pipe borne water provided by NDDC for the community was not functioning regularly.
She expressed the hope that when Dickson came into power he would ensure the regular flow of water in the community.
Also speaking shortly after casting his vote, Dickson said he was satisfied with the conduct of the election by INEC
He said, “I am impressed with the turnout at both the accreditation and election proper, as well as the peaceful conduct of the exercise and that it was crises free.”
