‘Information, Vital Tool In Health Delivery’
Information dissemination has been described as a major player in effective health delivery and other human endeavour.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sampson Parker said this on Monday in a meeting with his Information and Communications counterpart, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari in Port Harcourt.
Parker noted that information is the backbone of effective health delivery, thus the need for the information ministry to assist his ministry in the dissemination of health information.
He was of the view that lack of adequate information on some health issues was the reason why people die, adding malaria or heart diseases do not kill but lack of knowledge.
He pointed out that the health delivery care profile of the state was built on primary health care known as preventive care, which according to him, deals more on health information and education.
He also described as significant the role of the Ministry of Information and Communications, while calling on the ministry to educate the public more on the importance of preventive medicine.
The Information and Communications boss, Mrs. Semenitari had earlier advised her health counterpart to make available data that will speed up the process.
She further directed that the directors of planning, research and statistics of both ministries should work as a team in order to achieve the set goal.
Meanwhile, she has assured Dr. Parker of her readiness to print the required messages capable of persuading the public carryout informed decisions concerning their health.
