GSM Market Demolition: Landlords Back RSG
The landlords of Handset Village on Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway have backed Rivers State Government over the demolition of the illegal structures at the place.
One of the landlords who gave his name as Chief P.I. Mbanalu, in a chat with The Tide Tuesday said the government’s action was on the right track.
Mbanalu, noted that the government’s action was for the betterment of the handset dealers and not for selfish reason as some people believed.
He also appealed with the leadership of the state to hurry and provide a better market place for the dealers to enable them meet up with their personal demands.
While calling on the dealers to understand with the government, he explained that the demolition of illegal structures at the cell phone market will also ease traffic along the busy Aba/Port Harcourt Expressway.
Some dealers like Mr Gstar Godwin narrated how the demolition exercise has caused havoc to their daily living.
Godwin regretted that the state government took such decision when things were tough in the country.
According to him, some of them used the cell phone deal to carter for the problems of their various families as well as their personal demands.
The businessman regretted that the landlords had even refused to reimburse them after collecting their full rent before the commencement of the exercise.
“Some of us are now roaming the streets for nothing because of confusion. Government should please provide a better place for us” he said.
It would be recalled that Rivers State Government had sometime last year ordered the demolition of the cell phone market near Oil Mill junction following her determination to give the state a permanent facelift.
