College Of Health Wins Essay Competition
Rives State College of Health, Science and Technology (RSCOHST) has emerged winner of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), and a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Arm of Hope (AOH) World Outreach Essay Competition.
The College came first with 90 per cent, Rivers State College of Arts and Science (RIVCAS) second with 55 per cent while University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), has 45 per cent to emerge third.
The Tide gathered that the three schools that participated at the finals of the competition, emerged from seven (7) tertiary institutions in Rivers State.
Addressing the students at the end of the competition, in Port Harcourt, recently, the president of Arm of Hope (AOH) Outreach World wide, Apostle Eugene Ogu, congratulated the students for their performance.
Apostle Eugene Ogu encouraged the students to take their studies serious to come out best and become a blessing to the society and their generation.
He assured them that the NGO is determined to support both the less-privilege and students to come out best in their classes and profession to become self-reliarit.
According to him, “As far as you continue to do well, the NGO continue to stand by you”.
Apostle Ogu, who congratulated the three best schools for winning the maiden cup of Arm of Hope Outreach Worldwide (AOH) announced to the students that the competition would be organised annually.
“Work hard and prove to the society that the labour of your parents are not in vain.
“I want to let you know that when you work hard, there are NGOs out there watching to reward you”, he advised.
Speaking earlier, The President of National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), and Cordinator of the competition, Comrade Godspower Chioma Egbule, explained that the aim of organising the competition was to promote academic excellence amongst the students.
Comrade Egbule commended the NGO for sponsoring the competition.
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state. According to him, constructive media engagement remains essential in creating public awareness on educational reforms, students’ welfare, infrastructural improvements, and other interventions being implemented by the state government.
