Bonvic Wins Maiden Rivers Cricket Tourney
Bonvic Cricket Club, of Port Harcourt has emerged winners of the maiden edition of six by side Cricket tournament, held in Enitonnia High School, Port Harcourt at the weekend
Bonvic defeated Yorkers Club also of Port Harcourt by 76 runs against 56 runs.
Speaking at the occasion one of the major sponsors of the tournament, Cyril Djebah said government at all level in the country and other corporate organisations have given sports development premium in the state.
He described sports as the biggest employer of labour, since many people are involved during sports competitions.
“I said sports is the biggest imployer of labour because it involves the officials, printers, ushers etc which creates opportunity for people to earn their living one way or the other” Djebah said.
Djebah also stated that the tournament would be an annual event to popularise the game particularly in Rivers State.
He explained that Cricket is his best game and promised to sponsor cricket league next year to be participated by Cricket Clubs in the state.
“I am fulfilled to sponsor this tournament, because it gives me joy when I see young boys playing cricket.
I will sponsor cricket league next year. I want to ensure that the game is more popular than football in this state, “he stated.
Also speaking, the Chief Coach of Cricket Association in the state, Tonye Timinadi expressed joy over the successful hosting of the tournament.
Timinadi said cricket is one of the sports that teaches players how to discipline themselves as a person.
He used the opportunity to thank the sponsors of the competition, especially, Twin Lakes Ltd, Emems Enterprises Management and staff of Enitonnia High School and Mr Hilary Frank while appealing to parents to allow their children to participate in the game.
