Wamakko Harps On Western, Religious Education
Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto has urged youths in the state to pursue western and religious education.
He also called on them to be self-reliant in order to be useful to themselves and the society.
Our correspondent reports that Wamakko made the call in a broadcast to the people of the state to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
According to him, it is only with all forms of education that we can struggle for our lives in this world and hereafter.
“No society can develop if its youths are not vibrant, educated and patriotic as well as self-reliant,” the governor added.
Wamakko restated the commitment of his administration to train more than 25,000 youths across the 23 local government areas of the state in various vocational trades in the next four years.
“The programme, which started in 2007, had already graduated thousands of these youths who are the future leaders of Nigeria.”
This excludes thousands of others who had been trained by the local governments in various trades.”
Wamakko said that some of the sustainable virtues learnt during the Ramadan fast were self-control, pity and kindness to the less privileged.
He also underscored the need for the people to strive to acquire wealth through lawful means.
While congratulating Nigerian Muslims for successfully completing the Ramadan fast, Wamakko called for fervent prayers to ensure peace, unity and prosperity of Nigeria.
