Community Leader Urges INEC To Consolidate On Polls
A community leader in Esit Eket in Akwa Ibom, Mr Ben Udobia, has called on INEC to build on the successes achieved in the just-concluded general elections.
Udobia gave INEC a pass mark while assessing the performance of the electoral umpire in an interview with newsmen in Esit Eket.
He commended INEC for restoring the people’s confidence in the electoral process and redeeming the country’s image in the international community.
“The elections were transparently conducted and that brought a lot of credibility to the process, it cleared all the doubts in the minds of skeptics within and outside Nigeria.
“I will, therefore, implore INEC to build on this success and further improve on the areas where there were hitches.
“With what we have seen in the 2011 general elections we can expect the next elections in 2015 to be better.
“I commend INEC for this achievement that made us proud as Nigerians,” Udobia said.
He observed that the lapses in logistics during the elections could be addressed if INEC’s materials were transported by the commission’s vehicles.
He advised that steps should be taken in subsequent elections to acquire enough operational vehicles for INEC.
He called on politicians who lost in the elections to accept the results as the wishes of the electorate.
“The outcome of the elections reflected the voting pattern as every vote counted, so it is time for those that lost out to accept the results and work harder in subsequent elections,” he said.
