Commission Seizes Counterfeit Software
The officials of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), have recently raided the premises of a popular software reseller in Ikeja over suspected purchase of counterfeit software.
According to a news report monitored in Port Harcourt, the action was not unconnected to the unearthing or some bulk counterfeit software by the dealer.
The Tide gathered that the raid, led to the seizure of some suspected high quality counterfeit microsoft windows and office software by the NCC authorities.
The Director-General of the commission, Mr Afam Ezekude, noted that counterfeit goods were a menace to the Nigerian market.
Ezekude, stressed that the commission must rid the market of pirates who trick innocent consumers and others into illegal transaction.
He likened those who start business on counterfeit goods to building on the sand, saying that some local dealers have difficulties in competing with counterfeiters that have priced their goods at below-market levels, which are tempted to cut jobs.
He also warned that business people should strive to venture into genuine business.
Investigation is still on about the seizure.
