Bayelsa Restates Commitment To Better Society
The Bayelsa State Government has warned that it will not allow any individual or group of persons to undermine the greater interest of the state for selfish motives.
Consequently, the government has urged people of the state to take full advantage of the dividends of democracy government has provided and work collectively towards peaceful, credible, free and fair elections in the state and the country.
The state Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva, gave this warning during the thanksgiving service for the 50th Independence of the country and the 14th anniversary celebration of the
creation of the state at the King of Glory Chapel, Yenagoa.
Assuring Bayelsans of its full commitment to the cause of building a new state with core values that will accelerate the pace of its development, Chief Sylva, who was represented
by his Deputy, Hon. Werinipre Seibarugu, said independence is not just about reflecting on the successes and challenges of the past, but also provides an opportunity to learn the lessons of selfless services of the founding fathers.
He noted that his administration is aware of the huge challenges of developing a state like Bayelsa but that with the support of the people, unity of purpose and total determination, the state will experience transformation.
Earlier in his sermon, the guest preacher, Prophet Emmanuel Kure, had thanked God for seeing Nigeria through myriad of problems, stressing the need for the country to remain grateful to the creator for his mercies.
Prophet Kure said Bayelsa is being celebrated as God chosen state as a symbol of Nigeria at 50 by making their son the president at a time like this, urging the people to comport themselves by shunning violence as the future of the country rests on them.
The man of God noted that no meaningful development can be achieved in time of crises, stressing that as the celebrations are going on people need to reflect on ideas of the founding fathers and the best way to realise them.
