Youth Leader Tasks FG On Project Completion
A youth leader in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State, Chief Bassey Asuquo Bassey had decried the slow pace of work on the Ibeno bridge, a 600 metres bridge awarded to Viche Resources Nigeria Limited, an indigenous Nigerian contractor.
Bassey told newsmen in an interview that the delay in the execution of the contract had undermined the objective of the project billed to promote economic development in the Niger Delta.
While he applauded the contractor over the demonstration of competence in the project execution through the use of materials of international standard, he called on the federal government to expedite action to ensure speedy completion of the bridge.
Bassey also appealed to President Godluck Jonathan to set up a monitoring and assessment committee on ongoing projects in the Niger Delta.
This, he said, is to ascertain performance, standard and delivery in line with contractual agreement “to avoid wastage of fund and project abandonment”.
He pledged the continuous support and cooperation of the people to the contractor to ensure speedy delivery.
The Ibeno Bridge links areas such as Iko-Atabrikang, Opolom, Iwuochang and Okoroutip communities in Akwa Ibom State.
