Bayelsa Donates 30-Seater Bus To NPS
The Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has ordered the release of a 30-seater coastal bus to the Nigerian Prisons Services (NPS).
In addition, the state government would also ensure that necessary facilities that would make the prisons services in the state become functional before the end of the year were made available.
Chief Sylva who stated this when the Assistant Controller General of Prisons in charge of Zone E, Sir Michael Nweze paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Yenagoa, said that funds would also be made available to complete and upgrade the proposed Ogbia and Sagbama prisons.
He described prisons as essential in maintenance of law and order in the society, and urged federal authorities to take into consideration the terrain of the state in awarding contracts.
Earlier, Sir Nweze had expressed gratitude to the state government for including prisons in the changing face of Bayelsa project, saying that Sagbama prisons, when completed would rank among the high profile prisons in the country.
Among other things the controller-general requested the governor to assist sandfill the project site, provide a bus, and also provide facilities that would enable the authority to effectively carry out reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners.
