JAMB Registrar Tasks UTME Coordinators
Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, the Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, has urged the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Coordinators to ensure the conduct of credible examination devoid of malpractice. Ojerinde made the call in Gombe on Friday at the coordinators’ meeting for the 2010 UTME. He said a credible examination would protect the image and integrity of JAMB. “You remain our links to the examination officials; that is why you have to ensure that only credible people are appointed and briefed on the current practices in the conduct of the examination, “ he said. He said JAMB would employ the services of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps in the forth coming UTME. Ojerinde also said the Board would introduce the use of metal detectors to check malpractice during the UTME in April. Declaring the meeting open, Gombe State Deputy Governor, Mr John Lazarus, urged JAMB to consider the educational imbalance among the six geo-political zones in its new UTME policy.
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state. According to him, constructive media engagement remains essential in creating public awareness on educational reforms, students’ welfare, infrastructural improvements, and other interventions being implemented by the state government.
