PTOL Embarks On 24-hr Service In PH
As part of efforts to reposition the Port Harcourt port wharf for greater efficiency, as well as be the best port and terminal operator in Nigeria, the Port and Terminal Operators Limited (PTOL), a concessionaire in-charse of terminal ‘A’ at Port Harcourt wharf has embarked on 24-hour service delivery.
Making this known while speaking to the press in Port Harcourt, the Managing Director of the company, Mrs. L. B. Obvude said that the decision to embark on round-the-cock service is basically to encourage importers to patronise and make use of the Port Harcourt port.
She said that the port has taken new shape in terms of infrastructure and other facilities that will make it competitive like any other port in Nigeria, pointing out various areas the Port Harcourt port has advantage over other ports.
According to her “we have online service documentation, efficient customer-care services, safety of goods and easy, fast documentation process as well as low transport cost and low tariff charges”.
Obvude posited that the vision of her company is to be the best port and terminal operator in Nigeria, and also to go into full container operation this year.
The PTOL boss said that terminal ‘A’ has a total length of about 650 metres quay apron and staking area measuring over 70,000 square metres, and also has six warehouses/transit sheds, adding that 14 modern cargo handling equipment are already available for use at the terminal.
She also stated that a reasonable draught of about 8.5 meters has been achieved and that 10.5 metres drought will be achieved after the on going dredging.
