Good Foods For Better Health
It is known that health is wealth. Good health is man’s greatest treasure. We all want to be healthy and happy in life. If we want to stay healthy, there are important things we must do.
First of all, we must eat good foods everyday. Our daily meals must include the right proportions of different types of diets that the body requires for proper growth and functioning. We must therefore, eat what is called balanced diet.
There are several classes of food.
1. Carbonhydrate
2. fats and oils
3. protein
4. fruits and vegetables.
Food can be divided into three groups according to their functions
Energy giving foods: Our body requires regular energy as we carry out our daily activities. We must therefore, eat food that gives us energy e.g. carbohydrates, fats and oil.
Body building foods: Our body also requires food that helps to repair and build new cells and tissues. We must eat such foods that help the body to grow and function well e.g protein which builds new cells and tissues
Health giving foods: Human body needs what helps to protect it against diseases e.g. vitamin and mineral salts.
Our body needs water
Without water man cannot survive, 70 per cent of our body is made up of water. Hence, the body requires regular supply of water to function well. Water helps to supply nutrients round the body. It helps to flush out waste matters from the system. Several loss of water leads to dehydration.
