Lufthansa Airline Resumes Operation In PH
The German Carrier, Lufthansa Airlines, last Monday resume operations at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
The Airline which suspended its operations due to the closure of the airport in 2006, has also acquired and taken over the Virgin Mlantic Airlines lougage at the International Departure Area.
The Tide gathered that the airline would operate three flight weekly Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Airline which has already put back its facilities on line, said they are coming with a bigger aircraft.
In another development, the Federal Government has set up a 10 man Intervention Committee to look into problems of the Aviation sector.
The setting up of the committee followed a stakeholders meeting attended by airlines operators of Nigeria, (AON), Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Taminu Yakubu.
The Committee headed by Special Adviser to President Musa Yar’Adua on Aviation Matters Shehu Lyal is to among other things look into the multifacet complaints of AON and suggest ways of tackling them.
The Tide gathered that the meeting was called to suggest urgent solution for the industry with the view to solving them.
The Tide source revealed that the Aviation regulators and service providers were kept out of the meeting to allow frank talk.
Our source also hinted that another meeting will be convened with the regulators and service providers before a final decision will be taken.
Minister of Finance Mansur Maktur, who was also at the meeting said government had been monitoring the sector and felt the need to be abreast with developments to know what kinds of International strategy that would be adopted to solve the problems.
