LG Chairman Pledges To Make Bonny Tourists Haven
The chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, Barr Edward Pepple, has pledged to transform Bonny into a tourist centre using its natural ambience.
Mr. Edward Pepple made the pledge during a banquet at Royal Atlantic Suite, Bonny. In a power point presentation, the chairman highlighted projects completed so far by his administration in the areas of infrastructural development, capacity building and employment generation, social amenities and rehabilitation programmes, such as Bonny Unity motor park, Bonny Peace Garden, Ibani historic centre, ICT centre, provision of 12 Hace buses to ease transportation difficulties on the island, four speed boats and eight outboard engines, livestock (poultry farm), marine terminal, N20 Million micro finance scheme, which 128 persons are beneficiaries, Bonny football team initiated and inaugurated by the chairman. They are placed on monthly salary.
The chairman commended Nigerians on the attainment of her 49th year of independence, stressing that the freedom Nigeria enjoys today is as a result of the tireless struggle of our fallen heroes. According to the council boss, he would ensure that before December, rural dwellers enjoy water projects which he said was his next point of call.
The council boss used the occasion to call on all Bonny stakeholders to turn out enmasse for this year’s Bonny cultural carnival, assuring that this year’s carnival would be not different from Calabar’s cultural carnival.
Earlier in his welcome address, the head of local government administration in the council, Mr Reginald Inimgba advised Nigerians in diaspora to join hands with the rest of their kinsmen and women to build a better future for the country.
In his good will message, former commissioner for finance, Amaopusenibo Israel Tuwotamuno Williams commended the chairman for his numerous achievements within a short period, appealing to the Rivers State Government to consider the development of Bonny coastlines, spanning several kilometres, with a view to enhancing the activities of the island and improving on its tourism potentials.
