1,000 Voices Grace Wakirike Unity Concert
About 1000 Choristers from different churches in the three component local government areas of Wakirike Ethnic nationality graced this year’s Wakirike unity concert held recently in Port Harcourt
Speaking at the event, the convener, Dr Abiye Hector-Gama described music as a Unifying factor and a veritable avenue to enthrone peace and stability among people.
The event that attracted Okrikans from various churches in the three component Okrika local government areas of PHALGA, Ogu/Bolo and Okrika featured different types of music, including the use of choir, orchestra, choirmasters from various churches,
Dr Hector-Gama, who is also the International Administrator, Wakirike Development Coalition, told The Tide that the programme was an annual event.
“Wakirike Unity Concert is all about bringing young talents in Wakirike Kingdom, through music.
According to the medical doctor, mothering is unifying as music, music knows no language, the Latin Americans, Asians, Africans and a host of other nations can be united through music. He said cultism, thuggery, kidnapping and other social vices could be reduced in Wakirike Kingdom and Niger Delta in general through this unifying force called music.
The Okrika born medical doctor went further to state that the Wakirike cause was to lift the Okrikans out of poverty and midwife their prosperity.
“We want to bring unity at all levels, We want to see people come from various ethinic groups, the Ikwerre’s, the Nembes, the Ogonis, the Etche and a host of the communities that make up the Niger Delta.
“Irrespective of party differences and ideology, with music, a language is spoken, he stated”.
According to him the 1,000 voices only came from Wakirike clan adding that it was expected that by 2019 all the Wakirikes in the Niger Delta would embrace this culture.
