Monarch Wants NDDC To Implement EIA On Projects
The Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area of Rivers State, King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nemenibo, Loko IX has enjoined the management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to ensure that its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on projects is fully implemented by its contractors.
He made the call during an NDDC-EIA Open Forum for the proposed sandfilling of Ofunguru (Tamuno) Ama in Ogu held in Port Harcourt, recently.
According to him, the presentation by the EIA consultant was well articulated but stressed the need for the consultant not to deviate from the practical presentations during the project execution proper.
The Ogu monarch said sandfilling of Ofunguru (Tamuno) Ama is a welcome development to the people as it would further expand the landscape of the Kingdom and expressed gratitude to the management of NDDC for the project.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ogu Community Development Committee (CDC), Mr Omiebi Davis and a woman leader in the community, Mrs Patience Saroh thanked NDDC and the consultant for the Ofunguru (Tamuno) Ama sandfilling project but appealed for its implementation and completion on schedule.
They frowned over an abandoned project by the commission in Ogu and charged the management to periodically inspect their on going projects to ensure completion.
