IDC Advocates Adoption Of Key IT Trends
The International Data Corporation (IDC) last Wednesday advocated adoption of key trends in Information Technology (IT) to transform businesses and economies.
IDC Group Vice President and Regional Managing Director (Middle East, Africa, Turkey), Mr Jyoti Lalchandani, made the call at the 2018 IDC Cloud and Datacentre Road Show in Lagos last Wednesday.
Lalchandani delivered an address entitled, “Datacentre and Cloud: Engines of Digital Transformation”.
He listed the key trends or pillars of technology to include cloud computing, mobile computing and Big Data analytics, which he described as the third platform.
He identified the others as robotics, next generation security and Internet of Things (IoT).
The Tide’s source reports that the third platform is the next phase of the IT revolution.
The first platform is the mainframe computer system, which began in the late 1950s.
The second is the Personal Computers (PC) which dominated the IT landscape from 1985 to 2005.
The third platform is being built on mobile computing, social networking, cloud services, and Big Data analytics technologies.
Lalchandani said that the key trends would bring about disruption in businesses evidenced in the datacenters’ transformation from 2013 to date.
According to him, datacenters transformed from standards managed in 2016-2017 and to cloud in 2018-2019.
He described the IT trends as a game changer for organisations.
According to the official, two-thirds of IT firms would be driven by the third platform with this transformation by the end of 2020.
