Community Wants Desks, Furniture For Primary School
The people of Ikem Community in Akwukabi Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State have passionately appealed to the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to consider the primary school in the area to award the contract for the provision of school desks and other furniture that are lacking in the school.
The community made this demand during a press briefing held at the community town hall, Ikem over the weekend.
Speaking on behalf of the Community, a youth activist, Comrade Chinwendu Nwubi said the appeal becomes very imperative considering the dilapidated condition of infrastructure in the school.
According to Comrade Nwubi, the pupils of the school sit on the floor to learn, adding that teachers teaching in the school do not have chairs and tables to sit and write.
He disclosed that the condition of the school has become a nightmare to the entire community as teachers and some parents have resulted to abandon the school.
“Many teachers posted to the school have declined their interest while some parents have even moved their wards to another school because of the present condition of the school.”
“We are calling on the State governor, Chief Nyesom Wike (Mr. Project) to come to the aid of the community by ensuring that the relevant government agencies responsible for the development of education in the State urgently intervene,” he added.
He used the opportunity to commend the State government for the measures taken so far to improve the standard of education in the state.
The youth activist opined that the educational future of the pupils of CPS Ikem Etche now hang in the balance and appealed that an urgent step be taken to remedy the situation, if possible, before the new academic session by September.
