Church Backs True Federalism …Applauds Wike
Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rivers District has called for the adoption of true federalism in keeping with the dictates of constitutional democracy while reaffirming faith in the unity of Nigeria and the right of citizens, irrespective of ethnic nationality.
The church also commended the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for building and furnishing an Ecumenical Centre to foster the unity of christians in the state and successfully organising the state Golden Jubilee celebrations.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its Seventh Ministers Conference, with the theme, “Divine Sanitation in the Season of Jubilee, held in Port Harcourt recently, the Church decried the wave of cultism, militancy, kidnapping and herdsmen insurgency which show contempt and disregard to sanctity of human lives.
According to the statement, the ill-wind of crime and criminality could be checked if government, the private sector and non-governmental organisations give priority to value orientation, job creation, prompt payment of workers’ entitlements and adequate support to the security apparatus, even as it urges the federal government to be more proactive in reviving the ailing economy.
The statement signed by the Rivers District Superintendent, Rev Dr. Daddy Ibulubo, the District Secretary, Rev. Dr Clifford Sampson, the Communiqué Chairman, Rev. Emmanuel Hart and the Communique Secretary, Revd. Charles Benibo among others, urged Church leaders not to emphasise prosperity at the expense of dignity of labour, righteousness and adherence to moral and ethical values.
It also called on Christian organisations to increase investment in Missions, being the cardinal purpose of the Church and ensure that posting of Pastors to rural or mission areas was not based on primordial sentiment.
The Conference tagged , “Jubilee School of Ministries attended by 350 Pastors and their wives across the 18 Sections of the District, also urged humans to recommit themselves to God who is the “natural habitat of man”, noting that when human is removed from God’s presence he dies spiritually.
The statement regretted the hardship faced by several Nigerians and wanted the government to translate its economic policies to address the felt needs of the people.\
