Union Boss Hails Wike Over Massive Road Construction
The President, Rivers
Transport and Investment Co-operative Union Limited, Rivers State Chapter, Comrade Tubonemi Wokoma has expressed delight with Governor Nyesom Wike led government in the state for the massive road construction and rehabilitation.
Wokoma, who made the commendation in a chat with our correspondent in his office in Port Harcourt said the network of road constructions has given the state a face-lift, and provided succour to the motoring public.
According to him, the good road networking had also attracted investors into the state and improved free flow of traffic in Port Harcourt and its environs.
He commended Governor Wike for a job well done and enjoined him to keep up the tempo, as to bring back the state to its garden city status, assuring that as a co-operative, they are highly excited and in total support to the government.
The Transport and investment union boos however advised the government to check the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and stop them from monopolising the roads because they had never constructed any road in Nigeria since their operations in 1978 till date.
Wokoma noted with dismay that NURTW carts away billions of naira from the public especially commercial transport operators, but has nothing to show for it.
The roads were built by the government for free-flow of traffic and not for NURTW to enrich themselves by obstructing and harassing road users, “he posited, and further called on the government and other relevant authorities to take urgent steps and check the activities of NURTW in the state.
