Reactions Trail Street Lights, Bus Stands Rehabilitation In PH
The rehabilitation of
the street lights and passenger waiting sheds at bus stops in Port Harcourt and its environs has started eliciting reactions from the public.
Some residents of Port Harcourt who bared their minds in an interview with our correspondent said the rehabilitation was long overdue, but commended the present administration of Governor Nyesom Wike for the exercise.
According to them, the rehabilitation would further give the state, especially Port Harcourt and its environs a face-lift, but also called for the rehabilitation of the traffic lights to help the motoring public at night and add colour to the beauty of the roads.
A civil servant, Mr Johnson Ekup said, “To be frank, the present government of Nyesom Wike is trying as they are also embarking on giving the bus stops and abandoned street lights a face-lift”.
Ekup said it is a job well done and cautioned that the state government should monitor them so that hoodlums and insane persons do not vandalise or take them over as residential homes.
Another civil servant, Alapuwari Odum also lauded the effort of government and called on the public to judiciously protect them from being damaged.
He also advised passengers to utilise the waiting sheds being provided by government rather than entering commercial vehicles at random places.
Blessing Onyeye, in her reaction noted that the rehabilitation is a good gesture, but expressed doubt if they would not be taken over by hoodlums to extort money from innocent commercial drivers.
In his reaction, Campbell Iwori also commended the governor for his visionary style of governance by providing facilities that would give the citizens a sense of belonging and the creation of dividends of democracy, urging the government not to relent in its developmental strides.
Also reacting, a one-time student leader, Comrade Saki Georgewill described the rehabilitation of the street lights and bus shedes as a welcome development and appealed to government to also extend it to all streets and major roads in the state.
