Group Woos Rich Nigerians On ICT Dev
The President, Niger
Delta Coalition Against Violence (NDCAV), Comrade Lekia Christian, has appealed to rich Nigerians to show interest in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) development.
He made this appeal in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Lekia said if rich Nigerians could turn around and invest robustly in ICT, the sector would do well.
The NDCAV boss pointed out that if the likes of Aliko Dangote and others could inject two per cent of their income into ICT development, it would employ more people than the oil sector.
He regretted that most wealthy Nigerians are only bent on making names for themselves rather than developing the country.
The Niger Delta peace advocate maintained that proper attention to ICT development would bail the country out of her present hard situation.
He explained how the already existing Internet facilities in the country would assure a better take-off.
He also advised that governments at all levels should make adequate budgetary provision for ICT development, saying, if we must make any headway, ICT Development as a project, must be considered urgently.
Furthermore, he called on industry players to see ICT development as part of the challenges in industrial growth.
While appealing with the Rivers State government on the need to consider vibrant ICT in all parasatals and ministries in the state, he added that the state-owned newspaper corporation (The Tide) ought to be digitalised.
