Crsg Satisfied With Projects Newmap
The Cross River State
Government has expressed satisfaction with the level of work being undertaken by the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Agency Programme – NEWMAP.
The Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu, made this known in Calabar while on an on-the-sport assessment tour of all NEWMAP Project sites in Calabar metropolis.
He described the erosion control works as wonderful in terms of technical expertise and aesthetic outlay and commended the Programme operators and engineers for job well done.
Prof. Esu, who is himself a soil scientist, noted that these projects would form a good basis for studies by soil physicists adding that his regular visit was a clear indication of government’s interests in the projects.
The Deputy Governor expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far, saying that it justified government’s huge commitment and energy directed towards erosion control and environmental conservation works for the state.
He then urged them to double their speed and take advantage of the dry weather to ensure completion of work.
Briefing the Deputy Governor the state, Project Coordinator, Mr. Fidelis Anuka, informed that in all their sites, except Nyangasang, work was more than seventy-five per cent completed.
The Project Coordinator assured that technical expertise would be brought to bear on the projects such that in the end, quality and aesthetic value would be delivered to the people of the state.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Mike Eraye promised to drive the work on all sites by strict supervision to ensure speedy completion.
Our Correspondents reports that erosion sites visited by the Deputy Governor included Atakpa Edim Otop Nyangasang, Ikot Ekpo and kot Anwatim gully erosion sites.
