Stakeholder Wants ICT Dept To Train 2500 Beneficiaries
A stakeholders in the
state, Mr Standford Opara, has called on the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to anchor the two day online training for 2,500 unemployed people to the state’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department.
The stakeholder, who spoke in an interview with The Tide Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said the online training would be better handled by the ICT department due to experience of the staff.
He said since it was a science and Technology oriented programme, taking it to another department or ministry other than the ICT would be counter-productive.
Opara, a trained ICT technogist maintained that anything that has to do with online / internet training, requires the attention of experts and not any other person.
The Tide learnt that the programme was targeted at training the participants on ways of accessing job online.
It further gathered that it was part of the Rivers new vision programmes of Gov Ezenwo Wike to equip Rivers youth with necessary tools for the challenges ahead.
Describing the training as a noble venture, he said it should cut across Rivers people and not for any political party members.
He argued that when once the programme was limited to political programme,” that it would not only defeat its aim, but may discourage other organisation’s which have similar intention.
Opera, maintained that skills such as ICT, was the best way to take away crime from young people due to its demanding nature.
He has also called on the state Government to ensure that the-would-be beneficiaries of the programme are graduates, in order to ease the process of training for the trainers.
