Improved Electricity Supply Excites Calabar Residents

Assistant State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (Ndlea), Bayelsa State Command, Mr Segun Adeyeye, with State Commander, Josephine Obi, at Ndlea news conference in Yenagoa on Monday
Some residents of Calabar
have commended the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) for the improved electricity supply in the city.
They made the commendation in separate interviews with newsmen in Calabar.
Mr Innocent Egbin, a civil servant, said that there had been constant electricity supply in Calabar South area in the last two weeks.
“We have been enjoying full power supply without interruptions since the past two weeks.
“This is unlike before when we used to enjoy power supply only three or four hours in a whole week. There is massive improvement now.
‘I think, we should commend the new owners, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) for their efforts,’’ he said.
In her contribution, a hairstylist, Mrs Catherine Ekaette, said she heaved a sigh of relief following the improvement in power supply in recent times.
According to her, receiving high electricity bills from the distribution company notwithstanding, she is willing to pay the bill because of what she described as constant supply of electricity to consumers.
“At least, my generating set is now resting for the past two weeks that electricity supply has improved tremendously in our area.
“We no longer run from pillar to post in search of fuel to start our generators each time we have a customer, the whole thing is just amazing.
“And no matter the high bills, when the light is steady, one can work hard and get enough money to pay, it is better than using the generator all the time,’’ she said.
Mr Udeme Nelson, an operator of a viewing centre in Calabar, expressed delight over the improved power supply.
“But I am not enjoying the situation well now because the English Premiership Football season is over and It would have been more useful to me during the season.
“All the same, I pray that the present trend will continue into the European League season,’’ he said.
While calling on the distribution company to sustain the current supply, the residents also urged PHEDC to provide meters at affordable costs for consumers.
