Bayelsa Community Pleads For Access Roads
Ogu Community, an
agrarian and fishing settlement in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has pleaded with the state government to boost agriculture in the area through access roads.
Some of the residents made the plea in separate interviews with newsmen in Yenagoa on Sunday.
According to them, the plea has become necessary to enable the people explore the opportunities from huge harvest and enjoy improved living standard.
They said that they had to cry out to government because government had begun roads project in the neigbouring communities such as Famgbe, Ogbogolo and Akaba.
Chief Paul Akugbe, the traditional ruler of Ogu Community, said that extending the road projects to the Ogu would give the community a new lease of life.
The chief said with good roads, the difficulties in establishing businesses in the area would be reduced and farmers could sell their produce.
He said that the existing road in Ogu community was constructed through communal effort of the good people of Ogu many years ago.
“I am appealing to the state government and the companies to help our people for we are mainly agrarian and fishing community.
“Since a new road has reached some neighbouring community such as Famgbe, Ogbogolo and Akaba, the government should extend the road project to Ogu,’’ he pleaded.
Another resident, Mr Mission Obugu, Deputy Paramount Ruler of Ogubad, said that the bad road had caused much difficulty in the movement of goods and services.
But Mr Lawrence Ehwrudjakpo, Bayelsa Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Development, said that the state government was committed to providing access roads to all communities.
“Work is ongoing to connect the three senatorial zones in the state. So, we are working hard to build roads that will stand the test of time,’’ he said.
