Records label has emerged the number one music label in Nigeria. The music label floated over two years ago after Don Jazzy parted ways with his business partner of many years, the Koko Master, D’Banj, who both owned and managed the biggest music label Mo’hits, Marvin records has become the powerhouse of Nigeria music label.
It was gathered that after the separation, D’banj went on to set up DB records while Don Jazzy came up with Marvin Records. While D’banj was still struggling to make his music label very attractive, Don Jazzy has been able to build his label into a bigger brand than all the brands in existence several years.
Our investigation reveals that this label has produced over 98 songs in less than three years which is unprecedented amongst the record labels in Nigeria Don Jazzy’s Label produced D’Prince’s Frenzy, Dr. Sid’s Seduction, Tiwa Savage’s “once upon a time” and Marvins All Stars albums and many of the songs dominated charts for a long period.
The label produced arguably the hottest songs in 2013, Surulere and in 2014, Durobucci, which is regarded as the biggest song of the year. The proof are the awards won. Another factor that has made the label number one is because it boasts of the biggest artists in Nigeria such as Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid, D’Prince as well as new artistes like Reekado Rank, Koredo Bello and D’Ja who are currently competing favourable with the established artistes.
Don Jazzy is a talented guy, who is regarded as one of the super producers to ever emerged in Nigeria, he has been able to consistently be on top of his game over the years and he is not sleeping on his oars. Unlike before, he is featuring more on his artistes songs and all the songs he featured are instant hits. They include “Elminado” by Tiwa Savage’, ‘Surulere’ by Dr Sid, and “Durobucci” by Marvin All Stars.
His influence has also helped the Marvin big Acts to secure big endorsement deals. When Don Jazzy got signed to MTN as brand ambassador, his influence also got Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid and his brother, D’Prince deals with telecom companies.
Marvin Records is a revamped Nigerian based record label founded by recording artiste and producer.
Michael Collins Ajereh on May 8th 2012. The label is home to recording artistes such as Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid, D’Prince, Diya, Recado Banks, Koredo Bello as well as roaster of producers such as Don Jazzy himself, Altimes and Baby Fresh among others.
R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.
A close associate of late singer Mohbad, Primeboy, has appealed for the artiste’s burial nearly three years after his death.
According to him, Mohbad’s body remains in the mortuary since September 12, 2023, pending burial arrangements.
The Tide Entertainment reports that in a statement Primeboy urged the family, public, and government to permit the burial, stating, “It’s been almost three years since Mohbad left us. His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
It would be recalled that Mohbad’s death sparked public outrage, protests, and investigations. Ongoing autopsy examinations, police inquiries, and legal proceedings have delayed burial arrangements amid family disagreements and public scrutiny.
