LASG Cautions W’African Countries On Natural Disaster

called for concerted efforts by states and cities in the West Africa to prepare for and mitigate the effects of disasters.
The State Deputy Government, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, made the appeal at the opening of a two-day “Emergency Preparedness Summit for South-West States and Cities of West African Sub-Region”.
She said: “The world is a global village, and the effects of problems in one location are felt far and wide in other locations.
“There is the need for us all to support ourselves and proactive measures to prepare for and mitigate the effects of disasters”.
Orelope-Adefulire said that the objective of the summit was to map out strategies to be employed for saving lives and property during disaster.
Said that proactive measures would help to reduce morbidity and mortality during natural or man-made disasters.
The deputy governor said that the state government would gather experts in healthcare and safety to provide solutions to problems posed by realities of today’s world.
The Ghanaian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Abdullahi, said that there was the need for collaboration in emergency management.
“Emergencies are situations that everybody should be involved in. “So long as there is human existence, there is bound to be disasters and emergencies,” Abdullahi said. According to him, West Africa has the capacity to manage its emergencies if all management strategies would be put in place.
