PH Residents Decry Refuse Dumping At Flyover
Residents of Port
Harcourt City and environs, have decried the high rate of refuse dumping at the Mile I flyover Port Harcourt.
A cross section of residents who spoke to The Tide in an opinion pool said that the Mile I flyover has been turned into a refuse dump stressing that this situation deserves the attention of the government.
A driver told,Mr Nnanna The Tide that despite the fact that drivers and others who ply their trade under the flyover pay their taxes and sanitation levies regularly, the government seems not to be concerned about the condition of the area.
A trader, Mrs Vivian also told The Tide that people urinate and defecate indiscriminately in the area thereby marking it unhealthy for all kinds of business to thrive under the flyover.
Mrs Vivian claimed that, she paid N20,000 to the authority before she was allotted a space to sell at the flyover and called on the authority to do some thing about it.
A tenant, Mr Etta Augustine, claimed that, he paid N10,000 for space, but the place is becoming uncomfortable because of the indiscriminate dumping of waste.
In his view, Mr Emeka Akujobi said that government should set-up a special taskforce at the flyover to check the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
He said that, that has become necessary to save the area from the spread of epidemic.
Mr Akpan Saturday on his own part said that government must design modalities to check the movement of persons within the flyover to check the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the area.
