Forum Wants End To Polytechnics’ Strike
The Forum of State
Commissioners for Education in Nigeria has called for resolution of the ongoing strike by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
The commissioners made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting in Calabar, recently.
They decried the near collapse of education in the north-eastern part of the country due to the activities of Boko Haram sect.
The communique said there was need for the Federal Government to protect education in the North East.
It expressed deep concern over the fate of education in the north-east geo-political zone and called on stakeholders to rise to the challenge.
The communiqué, signed by Chairman of the forum, Prof. Offiong Offiong, Commissioner for Education in Cross River, said the north east zone currently had the highest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
The communiqué condemned the gruesome murder of students and teachers at Federal Government College, Buni-Yadi in Yobe by the terrorist group.
The forum assessed the state of education across the country and expressed deep concern over the fate of education in the north-east geo-political zone.

It urged all stakeholders in Nigeria to rise and protect education in the country, particularly in the north-east in the face of Boko Haram insurgency.’
