Cleric Harps On Girl Child Education
Parents have been advised to place premium on the education of the girl child
A Cleric, Rev Apollos Ene-Nte gave the advice in a sermon at a funeral service in honour of late Mrs Selinah Inyinge Rogers Ogbologugo held last Saturday at St. James Anglican Church, Ataba Parish in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Rev. Ene-Nte who said that the education of the girl child portends a balanced societal development, commended late Mrs Ogbologugo for training up her daughters to the highest educational level at a time the education of the girl child was regarded as a taboo.
He described the deceased as a devoted Christian who has contributed immensely to the growth of the church and brought up her children in the fear of God, noting that she had left a legacy worthy of emulation.
“It is not the affluence that matters but the legacy you leave behind,” he stressed.
The Clergy man emphasised that the death of a true believer in Christ is joy to a Christian as it is a step to the attainment of salvation, stressing that it is only unbelievers that fear death.
Taking his text from the Gospel of St. Luke Chapter 2:25-36, Rev. Ene-Nte urged those who have not given their livs to Christ todo so as it was the only guarantee to the attainment of life after death.
Earlier in a biography read by the first daughter of the deceased, Mrs Stella Loveday Itatat described her late mother as a caring and loving woman who achieved a rare feat of being the first female in Ataba to obtain the first school leaving certificate in 1947.
