Subscribers Salute NCC’s Courage
Telecommunication subscribers in Rivers State, have hailed the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) over its suspension of all lotteries and promotions by telecommunication operators in the country.
The subscribers, noted that some big net work providers milk the people dry every yelutide season on the pretext of lotteries and promotion opportunities.
According to them, the issue of wining brand new aeroplane or luxuries as advertised by some giant network providers is a white elephant project.
One subscriber, who gave her name as Ibifuro Jack, said the NCC intervention was not only timely but had rescued several subscribers from the hands of shy-lock telecom operators.
Jack explained that subscribers in the country had suffered untold hardship due to what she described as non-challant altitude of concerned authorities.
She said that the NCC should stop at nothing until all the monies collected by some telecom operators via lotteries and promos had been retrieved.
Another respondent, Tunde Ademola said the Federal Government had acted well by the ban on lotteries and promotions, adding that it should use the opportunity to over haul the telecommunication industry.
Ademola recalled how the telecom companies had failed the country by not providing quality services over the years.
Other subscribers stressed that the ban should not be treated with kid gloves or allowed to be managed by businessmen in order to avoid what they described as Nigerian factor.
They stressed that the industry should be investigated and the monies recovered and returned to subscribers accordingly.
They wondered how subscribers were yet to benefit from such promos and lottery opportunities after much advertisements on television and other means of mass media.
It would be recalled that NCC over the week, through its Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo announced the ban on lotteries and promotions offered by telecom operators due to several complaints by consumers, stakeholders and industries in the country.
