SA Explains MDGs’ Baseline Facility Inventory
The Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Mr. Desire Bob-Manuel, says the baseline facility inventory exercise is to draw the Federal Government’s attention to specific areas where the state and local government areas would need help.
Speaking in his office recently recently, Bob-Manuel said the exercise would advance the attainment of the MDGs in 2015.
The exercise which started in 2011 with 113 local government areas in a pilot scheme that included Akuku Toru, Khana and Omuma local government areas.
The Special Assistant assured local government areas in the 2012 exercise of being part of the 2013 rounds of the MDGs projects intervention.
Over 100 enumerators (six per local government) were deployed to Rivers State by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on this year’s baseline facility inventory exercise.
The exercise which is currently going on around all states of the federation is aimed at identifying various areas where states need interventions such as health, education, water, sanitation and agriculture.
The exercise commenced in may 24th through the 4th of June 2012 with local governments of the Rivers East Senatorial District namely; Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Okrika, Ogu Bolo, Ikwerre, Etche and Emohua. The second phase which was done in June had Local Governments in the Rivers West Senatorial District enumerated.
They include; Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Degema, Asari Toru, Abua/Odual, Ogba Egbema Ndoni and Bonny. It was concluded on Wednesday 25th of July with those (Lgas) of the Rivers South East Senatorial District namely; Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Oyigbo, Opobo Nkoro and Andoni.
