Fake GSM Promo: Court Resumes Ruling On Baila
An Enugu High Court Judge Justice Afam
Nwobodo has reserved ruling for May 29 in the bail application filed by one
Friday Egbearo, who is standing trial for advance fee fraud.
Egbearo, a student of Auchi Polytechnic,
was alleged to have on July 18, 2011, defrauded one Dr Christopher Ndubuisi of
N80,000 under false pretence.
The accused was also alleged to have on
June 20, 2011 sent a telephone message to one Michael Aneke, informing him that
he had won N2 million in an ongoing Glo recharge promotion and asked him to pay
N40,000 for processing.
The counsel to the accused person, Mr S.M.
Onyeabo, argued that his client had returned the money he was alleged to have
swindled and deserved bail.
In a counter argument, the counsel to the
state, Mr E.O. Alumemi, said the money recovered from the suspect was used to
settle the people he defrauded and that his accomplice was still at large.
Nwobodo also adjourned a case of kidnap and
murder involving 10 suspects to May 28 to enable the prosecution to produce all
the accused in the court.
After taking the plea of seven of the
accused brought to court, the judge ordered the prosecution to produce all 10
accused before the case could be heard.
Those brought to court on Monday were
Chijioke Chinwuba, Ernest Okeke, Chika Mgbada, Etido Effiongudo, Fabulous
Chukwu, Nnaemeka Chukwu and Chukwudi Obi.
They were alleged to have on Sept 26, 2009
at Trans Ekulu, Enugu, kidnapped one Lotachukwu Ezeudu, the only son of his
parents, and killed him.
