LG Chairman Urges Communities To Protect Trees
Acting Chairman, Kafur Local Government Council of Katsina State, Alhaji Hassan Dembo has appealed to the people to protect the 30,000 trees planted in the area.
Dembo made the call on Thursday in Kafur in Katsina State, while inspecting the level of work at the rehabilitation of damaged bore holes in the area.
He said the trees were planted in line with the afforestation programme of the state government. “Sustaining the growth of the trees should therefore be the collective responsibility of all residents,” Dembo said. He stressed the need for joint efforts by both the government and the people to protect the trees.
Dembo commended Gov. Ibrahim Shema’s afforestation programme aimed at curtailing the alarming rate of deforestation in the state.
He stressed the need for government institutions, as well as non-governmental organisations, to complement the governor’s efforts in this regard. Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government has supplied three waste disposal trucks and three water supply trucks to each of the local government areas in the state.
