Expert Harps On Integrated ICT
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the education system is imperative to empower the youths for the challenges of the global information society, Prof. Cleopas Angaye, has said.
The Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Angaye made the statement in Abuja at the North Central Zonal finals of the National IT Quiz Competition for secondary schools.
Angaye described ICT as an important tool for national survival and development, which played key roles in teaching aids, research, online education and additional skills that would allow them to secure employment.
“The need to adequately equip Nigerian youths who constitute the largest percentage of our population on the use of technologies to achieve producing competitive manpower, therefore, cannot be overemphasised.
“It has, therefore, become highly imperative to fully integrate ICT in our educational system to empower the youth for the challenges of the global information society driven by technologies,’’ Angaye said.
The Plateau Commissioner for Education, Mr. Athanasius Dashen, said the awareness campaign on ICT was timely and encouraging.
The Kogi Director of School and Colleges, Mr. Kayode Stephen, also advised state governments to ensure the deployment of ICT in their various states to promote education.
Awards were presented to states that participated in the competition, comprising Niger, Benue, Kogi, Plateau and FCT.
Plateau, Kogi and Benue which took first, second and third positions in the competition got a 15-inch laptop, 14-inch laptop and 10-inch laptop and their accessories respectively.
