New Mile 3 Market Underway In PH
A new ultra-modern market, with state-of-the-art facilities is to be constructed at the mile three market by the Rivers State Government.
The State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi made this known to traders of the mile three market in Port Harcourt.
The governor, who was accompanied by his wife, Judith, said the new market will be built in phases, noting that greater attention would be paid towards ensuring that the necessary facilities in a modern market are provided.
While assuring that the state government would provide temporary place for the traders during the period of construction, Governor Amaechi also assured that contract will be awarded for the re-construction of Bishop Okoye Street to enable traders freight their goods with ease.
“When we finish, traders will not be allowed to sell on that street again”, he said while acknowledging that the activities of the traders contributed to the poor state of the road.
He restated the state government’s commitment towards promoting non-discriminatory ethnic policies, stressing that the first phase of the mile one market has since been ready but the inability of the traders to resolve their differences has stalled the process of allocation.
Governor Amaechi, who is also the Governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next month’s election, therefore enjoined the traders to vote for all PDP candidates for the elections as the party was taking proactive steps to pursue people-centered policies in the state.
Responding on behalf of the traders, the President of the United Traders Association, Elder Joe Mbamuka thanked the Governor for addressing them and for the plans of Government for the Mile Three Market and assured him that the traders would vote massively for all the PDP candidates in the forthcoming April general elections.
Governor Amaechi also inspected the new model primary schools at the St. Andrew’s premises in Diobu, Port Harcourt that are under construction
