2010 W/Cup: Naija Village Eases Nigerians’ Accommodation Worries
Nigerians travelling to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup will have their accommodation worries eased with the provision of accommodation facilities at the Naija Village.
Premium Sports CEO, Nkechi Obi, whose company has been licensed to run the project by the NFF, says the Naija Village will offer up to 3, 500 beds at affordable rates for Nigerians travelling south for the event.
“We want to ensure that as many Nigerians as possible can watch the World Cup without tearing a big hole in their pockets.
“We had three objectives in setting up this project. The first was to provide pocket-friendly accommodation. The second was to recreate Nigeria outside Nigeria for Nigerians and others, and the third was to be part of an historic African event.
“That is why we are providing accommodation that is affordable, and environment that is welcoming and familiar, and entertainment that is uniquely Nigerian.”
She added that of the 9 other countries who will play phase games in Durban, at least three were in talks to take ‘Country Days’ at the Naija Village.
“We are hoping to conclude discussions within the next couple of weeks. It will be an opportunity for them to show their country and their businesses.”
The Naija Fan Village is a Premium Sports Project licensed by the Nigeria Football Federation and is located on Westville Road in Durban , South Africa.
According to Obi, the Village will be access controlled using special security key-cards and apart from the accommodation, also has cafeteria, swimming pool, gymnasium, mini-football field, church and mosque, mini shopping complex and match ticket terminal.
“It is about celebrating 50 Years of Nigerianness in this year of our 50th Independence as a nation and we hope that Nigerians can take full advantage of it.”
