Commissioner Proffers Solution To Poor Revenue Remitance

missioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr Samuel Eyiba has indicated that proper education and engagement of companies operating in local government areas was the solution to poor revenue generation.
Eyiba who made the remarks during his official visit to Akuku -Toru Local Government Council in the Rivers State, said enlightenment of the companies would solve the problem of non-compliance in the area of revenue remittance.
He said such cengagement would spur the companies into action even in the area of applying the local content law in employment generation.
The commissioner noted that his tour was part of his oversight function and an opportunity to proffer solution to some teething challenges associated with council administration.
He noted that his visit was aimed at ensuring accountability by the administrators of the councils and called for proper utility initiatives.
He maintained that no council administration could boast of any kind of modern administration if their records were not kept straight.
The commissioner reiterated the gains of accountability in private and public service, adding that proper record keeping and accountability would speak volumes after the person’s tenure in office.
Still on internally revenue generation, he underlined birth, death and marriage registrations as an avenue of IGR growth.
Also speaking, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the LGA, Hon. Stanley Benibo, recalled that he was doing all within his reach to ensure that the needed infrastructure in the LGA were provided like water and good road.
He listed security as one of the greatest challenges facing his administration, and lauded the commissioner over his timely rescue operation to the councils.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Justina Jumbo, had called on the workers to adhere strictly to the practice of due process in all their transactions in the council.
