LASG Rolls Out Projects Specification Guidelines For Contractors
The Lagos State
Government, says it has presented contractors with the minimum design specification and quality of works guidelines for road works.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrstructure, Mr Femi Hamzat, in a statement, said the action was to get value for the expenses being incurred on the on-going massive development of infrastructure in the state.
“The new regime of specification is designed to ensure not only the quality of work but also promote safety standards at construction sites.”
According to Hamzat, the introduction of the Public Procurement Law by the State Government has made it imperative for contractors to be more personally involved in the process of decision taken while negotiating for the contracts.
The Commissioner said that apart from the on-site standards, the State Government had introduced a community ownership strategy in monitoring its projects.
He also said that the Ministry’s websites, the addresses and names of contractors would be displayed.
Hamzat said that international safety standards applicable to the industry must also be complied with by all contractors, warning that failure to comply with the guidelines would lead to blacklisting of the contractors concerned.
“The new project signboard with the inscription “Lagos at Work” must be put up at the commencement of any project and removed immediately the project is completed.”
He explained that the specifications covered standards such as duration, provision of walkways which is physically challenged friendly, streetlights, standard size of service ducts and other technical specifications.
