Community Decries Pollution Of Underground Water
The Ebubu Clan Council of Chiefs in the Eleme Local Government Area has raise alarm over the contamination of its ground water sources by petroleum product.
This was contain in an open letter, addressed to the Rivers State Governor Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. The Letter titled “potable water, they have fail us, only Amaechi can intervene,” which was singed by the Paramount ruler of the clan Chief Emmanuel Bebe, said that this situation has made the community to suffer from water shortages, stressing that this has also had negative impact on the needs of the people.
According to him, this situation has underscored the need for the Rivers State Governor Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi to extend his water supply programme to Ebubu clan. Our children, woman and men have greatly been impacted and our immune system may have been compromised because of the continuous consumption of this contaminated water for over 40 years “he said”. I want the Governor to come and see things for himself. We need three water pumping stations and distribution channels to permanently address this urgent challenge. We also request that the ministry in charge of portable water visit our community and we shall show evidence of the water contamination in all the communities he said. Chief Bebe also noted that the community is ready to provide land for water pumping station in the area.
